TLDR Natural products might be safe, effective, and affordable treatments for hair loss.
The review explores the potential of natural products as alternative treatments for Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), a common type of progressive hair loss. Current AGA medications have significant side effects, high costs, and require long-term treatment. Natural products, recognized for their safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness, are being considered as complementary treatments. They function through various mechanisms, including modulation of signaling pathways like the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, the PI3K/AKT pathway, and the BMP pathway. They also influence cytokine secretion, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capabilities, and apoptosis and autophagy. However, the exact mechanisms of action of these natural products are not fully understood. The review's goal is to provide a theoretical basis for developing pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, or dietary supplements using natural products for AGA treatment.
