TLDR The YH complex, made from Astragalus membranaceus and Cinnamomum cassia, may help treat hair loss by promoting hair growth and follicle development.
The study investigated the effects of the YH complex, a combination of Astragalus membranaceus and Cinnamomum cassia, on hair growth. The YH complex was found to stimulate hair growth by interacting with 966 genes related to hair growth, including the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which is crucial for hair follicle development. In a mouse model, the YH complex significantly increased hair regrowth rate, hair density, and the diameter of the hair shaft. It also increased the number of hair follicles in the anagen phase and the expression of keratinocytes and growth factors such as IGF-1, HGF, VEGF, and KGF in skin tissue. The study concluded that the YH complex could be a potential remedy for hair loss diseases such as alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, and chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
