TLDR AA–TF#15 significantly promotes hair regrowth and could be an effective treatment for androgenic alopecia.
The study developed a topical formulation of atraric acid (AA) derived from Stereocaulon japonicum to treat androgenic alopecia by enhancing skin permeation and promoting hair regrowth. The optimized formulation (AA–TF#15) showed significant improvements in hair regrowth indicators such as hair follicle length, weight of regrowth hair, and activation of hair-regrowth proteins in an androgenic mouse model. AA–TF#15 outperformed minoxidil and finasteride, demonstrating 96.7% hair regrowth after 18 days without causing skin irritation or inflammation. The findings suggest that AA–TF#15 could be an effective alternative treatment for androgenic alopecia.
