TLDR Ginsenoside Rg4 from ginseng may help hair growth by activating certain cell signals.
The study investigated the effects of Ginsenoside Rg4, a component of ginseng, on hair growth using a human dermal papilla (DP) spheroid system. It was found that Rg4 treatment increased the viability and size of DP spheres, and upregulated the expression of DP signature genes related to hair growth. The mechanism was identified as the activation of the AKT/GSK-3β/β-catenin signaling pathway. These findings suggest that Ginsenoside Rg4 could potentially be used as a natural therapy for promoting hair growth. However, further studies are needed to understand the toxicity and clinical implications of Rg4 treatment.
