TLDR Ginsenoside Rg3 may help hair growth by increasing a growth-related protein in hair cells.
The study investigated the effects of ginsenoside Rg3 on hair growth, focusing on its impact on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in human dermal papilla (DP) cells and mouse hair follicles. Using DNA microarray analysis, real-time PCR, and immunohistochemistry, researchers found that Rg3 treatment led to dose-dependent increases in VEGF mRNA and protein levels. Additionally, Rg3 up-regulated the expression of stemness markers CD8 and CD34 in mouse hair follicles. The findings suggested that Rg3 could stimulate hair follicle stem cells, indicating its potential use in hair growth products.
