TLDR Panax ginseng extract may help prevent hair loss caused by DKK-1.
The 2017 study found that Panax ginseng (PG) extract can mitigate the hair loss effects caused by Dickkopf-1 (DKK-1), which promotes catagen progression and apoptotic cell death in hair follicles (HFs). The extract was shown to stimulate proliferation and inhibit apoptosis in cultured outer root sheath (ORS) keratinocytes, as well as to regulate the expression of apoptosis-related genes by increasing Bcl-2 and decreasing Bax levels. Additionally, in an ex vivo human hair organ culture, PG extract reversed the catagen-like changes induced by DKK-1, suggesting its potential as a treatment for hair loss. The study did not specify the number of samples or participants used in the research.
