TLDR Panax ginseng helps prevent hair follicle cell death and speeds up hair cell recovery after radiation in mice.
The study investigated the effects of Panax ginseng on hair follicles in irradiated mice. Mice were exposed to gamma-radiation and treated with ginseng either intraperitoneally or orally. Results showed that ginseng significantly reduced apoptosis in hair follicles and increased the number of medullary cells per unit length, indicating enhanced recovery and proliferation of hair follicle cells. These findings suggested that the water fraction of Panax ginseng could effectively protect and promote the recovery of hair follicles following radiation exposure.
