TLDR Salvia plebeia extract can stimulate hair growth.
The study demonstrated that Salvia plebeia (SP) extract promoted hair growth by enhancing the proliferation and migration of human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) and inducing hair growth factors. SP extract activated Wnt/β-catenin signaling, increased hepatocyte growth factor expression, and decreased TGF-β1 and SMAD2/3 levels. It also promoted anti-apoptotic and proliferative effects by increasing the Bcl-2/Bax ratio and activating ERK and Akt proteins. In vivo, SP extract stimulated hair follicle transition from telogen to anagen phase in C57BL/6 mice, promoting hair regeneration and elongation. The findings suggested that SP extract could be a potential treatment for hair loss, though further research was needed to identify the bioactive components and mechanisms involved.
