TLDR Cinnamomum osmophloeum leaf extract may help treat hair loss by promoting hair growth and increasing hair cell proliferation.
The study investigated the effects of Cinnamomum osmophloeum Kanehira (COK) leaf aqueous extract on hair growth and dermal papilla cell proliferation. The extract significantly promoted the proliferation of dermal papilla cells and enhanced hair growth in a mouse model, transitioning the skin from the telogen phase to the anagen phase more effectively than minoxidil. The extract increased mRNA levels of hair growth-related factors such as VEGF, KGF, and TGF-β2, and histological analysis confirmed increased number and size of hair follicles. These findings suggested that COK leaf extract could be a promising natural treatment for hair loss and alopecia.
