TLDR Human placental extract and minoxidil together significantly promote hair growth.
In 2015, a study was conducted on C57BL/6J mice to assess the combined effects of human placental extract (HPE) and minoxidil (MXD) on hair growth. The results showed that the combination of HPE and MXD significantly promoted hair growth, with the HPE + MXD group showing increased skin thickness, more hair follicles, and more frequent anagen (growth) stage hair compared to the normal group. The mean hair follicle counts for the HPE + MXD group were 139.75 ± 6.70, compared to 112.63 ± 6.87 for the 2% MXD group. The study suggested that HPE stimulates early embryonic development of hair and significantly affects hair follicle development through the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. This suggested that HPE could potentially be a treatment for hair loss.
