TLDR Crataegi Fructus water extract helps hair grow better and thicker.
The study investigated the effects of Crataegi Fructus water extract (CFWE) on hair growth in C57BL/6N mice and human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs). Six-week-old mice were treated with CFWE, 2% Minoxidil (MXD), or a control (CON) for 18 days. CFWE significantly promoted hair growth, improving hair density, thickness, and length compared to the control. It also increased Wnt/β-catenin signaling in dorsal skin and enhanced cell proliferation in hDPCs while inhibiting IFN-γ-induced degeneration. CFWE upregulated the expression of hair growth-related genes such as β-catenin, Axin-2, BMP-4, FGF-7, FGF-10, and ALP. The findings suggested that CFWE could be effective for treating alopecia through Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways.
