TLDR Crataegi Fructus water extract may help treat hair loss.
The study investigated the effects of Crataegi Fructus hot-water extract (CFWE) on hair growth and growth factor gene expression in human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) and C57BL/6N male mice. Mice were divided into three groups: control, CFWE-treated, and Minoxidil-treated. CFWE was applied topically twice daily for 18 days. Results showed that CFWE significantly promoted hair growth, increased hair density and thickness, and upregulated the expression of hair growth-related proteins (Wnt3α, Wnt5α, β-catenin) compared to the control group. The study concluded that CFWE could be a potential alternative treatment for hair loss.
