TLDR Combining herbal medicines with modern delivery systems may improve alopecia treatment.
This integrative review examines the potential of phytochemicals and novel delivery systems in managing alopecia, emphasizing their role as alternatives or complements to traditional treatments like minoxidil and finasteride. Phytochemicals such as epigallocatechin gallate, curcumin, and essential oils offer antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hormonal-modulating properties, potentially reducing side effects. The review highlights the promise of combining synthetic and natural therapies to enhance efficacy. Innovative delivery systems like nanocarriers, liposomes, and microneedles are explored to improve drug penetration and bioavailability, addressing challenges in conventional topical formulations. The integration of these approaches aims to optimize alopecia treatment outcomes, suggesting further research into optimal combinations and delivery systems.
