TLDR A patch with curcumin-zinc can improve hair growth and health by delivering beneficial particles to the skin, increasing hair follicles, and reversing effects of a hair loss hormone.
The study investigated a curcumin-zinc framework (ZnMOF) encapsulated microneedle patch (ZnMOF-MN) as a potential treatment for hair loss. The ZnMOF-MN patch was found to effectively deliver bioactive ZnMOF particles to the skin, improving the viability of dermal papilla cells and inhibiting apoptosis induced by zinc deficiency. It also reversed the inhibitory effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair loss. In vivo, the treatment accelerated wound healing, increased hair follicles, and improved hair regrowth in androgenic alopecia animal models. The study concluded that the ZnMOF-MN treatment is a comprehensive solution for promoting hair growth under various clinical conditions.
