TLDR People with Telogen Effluvium often lack vitamin D, ferritin, and zinc.
The retrospective cross-sectional study conducted in 2016 investigated the correlation between vitamin and mineral deficiencies and Telogen Effluvium, a common form of non-scarring alopecia. The study found that deficiencies in vitamin D, ferritin, and zinc were prevalent among patients with Telogen Effluvium. These findings suggest that these deficiencies could contribute to hair shedding, thus justifying the inclusion of these laboratory studies in the initial clinical evaluation of patients with this condition. However, the study also acknowledged the multifactorial etiology of Telogen Effluvium, which includes both physiological and non-physiological factors.
