TLDR Transdermal delivery systems show promise for treating hair loss by delivering drugs directly through the skin.
This review discusses the potential of transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) as a novel approach for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA), addressing the limitations of traditional treatments like minoxidil and finasteride. TDDS can deliver medications directly through the skin, enhancing localized treatment and minimizing systemic side effects. The review highlights emerging technologies such as microneedles, liposomes, ionic liquids, nanostructured lipid carriers, and transporters, which improve drug penetration through hair follicles. It provides a comprehensive analysis of these technologies and offers a forward-looking perspective on their future application in AGA management, aiming to guide the design of effective TDDS for this condition.
