TLDR Minoxidil and caffeine in transfersomes improve hair growth treatment.
This study developed a topical treatment for hair loss that contained minoxidil and caffeine. The researchers created a transfersome formulation of minoxidil and caffeine to treat alopecia and optimized the ratio of edge activators and hydration volume. The optimized formulation showed better skin permeation and drug release rate compared to a commercial minoxidil solution, indicating that transfersomes could be a promising carrier for treating hair loss. The study also explored the use of caffeine in topical formulations for hair loss treatment and hair growth stimulation. Caffeine inhibits the enzyme responsible for testosterone conversion to DHT, which is the main cause of hair loss in androgenic alopecia. The study concluded that using transfersome vesicles containing minoxidil and caffeine can enhance their bioavailability in the skin, promoting hair growth.
