TLDR The new delivery system improves treatment for hair loss by enhancing drug absorption and effectiveness.
The study synthesized an active pharmaceutical ingredient ionic liquid (API IL) based on choline and ferulic acid (FA), and constructed a finasteride (FIN)-loaded system. This system increased the solubility of FA and FIN and enhanced their permeation and retention, primarily through the hair follicle pathway. The FIN-loaded system was found to regulate mRNA expression in dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-irritated human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs), and demonstrated synergistic therapeutic efficacy for androgenetic alopecia. This suggests that the API IL-assisted follicular co-delivery of FA and FIN provides a new approach for targeted anti-alopecia treatment.
