    In 2020, Chen et al. investigated the hair follicle stem cell (HFSC) niche's complexity and its role in hair regeneration. The study divided the cells in the HFSC niche into three functional groups: signaling, sensing, and message-relaying. Dysfunction in these cells can lead to hair loss conditions like androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata. The document also discussed the role of immune cells in modulating HFSCs activity and the use of 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors and minoxidil as treatments for androgenetic alopecia.
