TLDR Adipose-derived stem cells may help with hair loss, but more research is needed.
This systematic review evaluates the therapeutic potential of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and their secretome in treating androgenic alopecia (AGA) and alopecia areata (AA). Despite methodological flaws such as lack of randomization, small sample sizes, and confounding factors, all 11 studies reviewed reported positive outcomes, including increased hair growth and patient satisfaction. Study 8, with 60 subjects, provided the most reliable data, showing improvements in hair density and thickness. However, the overall low level of evidence calls for larger, well-designed randomized controlled trials to confirm the efficacy of ADSC-based therapies for hair loss and to establish standardized procedures for their use.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

A user did not respond to finasteride, dutasteride, and oral minoxidil for hair loss after four years of treatment and is considering scalp micropigmentation (SMP). Other users suggest the hair loss pattern may indicate alopecia areata and recommend seeing a dermatologist.

A 19-year-old experiencing severe hair loss since 16 is using a treatment regimen of 5% minoxidil, 0.1% finasteride topical solution, 3% procapil hair serum, and 0.5 mg dutasteride daily. They are concerned about the effectiveness and potential shedding phase, with advice suggesting noticeable changes in 6 to 8 months.
