TLDR TrichoScan accurately measures hair growth and showed improved hair counts and thickness after finasteride treatment.
The document from 2001 presents the TrichoScan, a method that combines epiluminescence microscopy with automatic digital image analysis for the measurement of human hair growth in vivo. The TrichoScan can analyze all biological parameters of hair growth, including hair density, hair diameter, hair growth rate, and anagen/telogen ratio. The method demonstrated a high intraclass correlation of approximately 91% with the same TrichoScan operator and about 97% for different TrichoScan operators. The TrichoScan was used to compare hair parameters in individuals without apparent hair loss with men with untreated Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) and men after treatment with finasteride (1 mg/day). The results showed a significant increase in hair counts and cumulative hair thickness 3 and 6 months after treatment. The TrichoScan can be used for clinical studies to compare placebo versus treatment, to study AGA or other forms of diffuse hair loss, and to study the effect of drugs or laser treatment on hypertrichosis or hirsutism.

A user has been using finasteride and minoxidil for hair loss but is experiencing increased shedding and is considering using topical melatonin with a product called Rizn. Another user is skeptical about the effectiveness of topical melatonin due to issues with the research and lack of replication of results, while a third user expresses interest in the outcome of using Rizn after not seeing results from topical finasteride and minoxidil.

A user is experiencing hair loss despite using dutasteride and oral minoxidil, feeling hopeless and considering a hair system. They are advised to try ketoconazole, seek a second opinion from a dermatologist, and consider treatments like finasteride, RU58841, and hair transplants.
