    The review examines the role of pyroptosis, an inflammatory form of programmed cell death, in the development of alopecia areata (AA), an autoimmune hair loss disorder. It highlights the involvement of inflammasomes, particularly in outer root sheath keratinocytes, which contribute to cytokine release and inflammation, exacerbating hair follicle damage. The study suggests that targeting pyroptosis through various therapeutic strategies, such as JAK inhibitors, PDE4 inhibitors, and inflammasome inhibitors, could be promising for new AA treatments. However, these approaches are mostly in early stages, and further research is needed to validate their efficacy in reducing disease relapse and supporting hair regrowth in AA patients.
