TLDR Simvastatin/ezetimibe may help some patients with severe alopecia areata regrow hair.
The study investigated the effectiveness of simvastatin/ezetimibe therapy in 14 patients with recalcitrant alopecia areata. After 3 months, 4 patients (28.6%) experienced significant hair regrowth (30%-80%). Responders had a higher mean age of onset and lower prognostic factor scores. Despite the low remission rate, the therapy was considered a potential alternative for those unresponsive to other treatments, with no adverse effects reported. The study emphasized the need for larger, randomized placebo-controlled trials to confirm these findings.
