TLDR Certain natural products may help stimulate hair growth by affecting stem cell activity in the scalp.
The review discusses the role of dermal papilla (DP) stem cells in hair growth and loss, and the potential of plant-derived compounds in enhancing their activity. DP cells, crucial for hair growth, can differentiate into multiple cell types, and their decrease in pluripotency can lead to hair loss. The document highlights several natural products that stimulate hair follicle stem cells, including Geranium Sibiricum extract, Ishige Sinicola, Resveratrol, Polygonum Multiflorum, Miscanthus Sinensis var. Purpurascens, and Quercetin. These natural products enhance hair growth by inducing growth factors, upregulating key signaling pathways, and inhibiting negative regulators of hair growth. The document also discusses the role of various molecular signaling pathways in DP cells, including the Notch, TGF-β/BMP, Sonic Hedgehog (Shh), and PI3K/AKT pathways. These findings suggest the therapeutic potential of these natural products for hair regeneration and alopecia treatment.
