TLDR Bone marrow and umbilical cord stem cells can help grow new hair.
The study investigated the potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from human bone marrow and umbilical cord for treating alopecia by inducing hair multiplication. Researchers isolated and cultivated these MSCs to form dermal papilla-like tissues (DPLTs), which were tested in vitro and in vivo using athymic mice. The DPLTs exhibited similar characteristics to natural dermal papilla cells and successfully induced new hair follicle formation. The findings suggested that MSCs from bone marrow or umbilical cord could be promising sources for human hair cell therapy.
