TLDR Non-coding RNAs help control hair growth in cashmere goats.
This study investigated the roles of microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in dermal papilla cells (DPCs) from cashmere goats, which are crucial for hair follicle (HF) growth. Using high throughput RNA sequencing, researchers identified 2540 lncRNAs and 536 miRNAs, with significant differences in expression between DPCs and dermal fibroblasts (DFs). They identified 25 core signatures of DPCs, including HOXC8 and RSPO1, which are important for HF stem cell activation. The study highlighted how ncRNAs, particularly lncRNAs acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), modulate gene expression and HFSCs status, providing new insights into the molecular mechanisms of hair growth.
