TLDR The study found specific proteins that could mark different growth stages of cashmere goat hair and may help improve cashmere production.
This study investigated the secondary hair follicle cycle in Liaoning cashmere goats by analyzing skin samples from three male goats at different stages (anagen, catagen, and telogen). Using proteomics, bioinformatics, and immunofluorescence, the researchers identified 681 proteins, with 57 differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) across the stages. Key keratins (KRT1, KRT14, KRT19) were found to have distinct expression patterns, and their localization in hair follicles was confirmed. The study highlighted the significant roles of estrogen and ECM-receptor interaction signaling pathways in the hair follicle cycle, providing new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying cashmere production.
