Investigation of Some Potential Medicinal Plant Species in the Treatment of Alopecia Areata

    Tuba Şerbetçi, Hanadi Bekir İbrahim
TLDR Certain medicinal plants may help treat alopecia areata by promoting hair growth and reducing inflammation.
This study explores the potential therapeutic effects of certain medicinal plants in treating alopecia areata (AA), an autoimmune disease causing hair loss. The use of natural plant extracts has gained significant attention due to their anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, which may offer benefits in AA treatment. These plant-based products can promote hair growth through various mechanisms, such as stimulating cell proliferation in hair follicles, enhancing scalp blood circulation, inhibiting the 5α-reductase enzyme, triggering the release of growth factors, and reducing inflammatory cytokine levels. However, further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms of action of some plants.
