TLDR Maharanga bicolor and Hibiscus rosa sinensis extracts promote hair growth.
In 2019, a study was conducted to evaluate the hair growth promoting activity of Maharanga bicolor and Hibiscus rosa sinensis, two ethnomedicinal herbs. The herbs were extracted with petroleum ether and formulated in Aloe vera gel. This formulation was applied to the denuded area of rats for 30 days. The study found that a 2% M. bicolor formulation initiated hair growth on the 6th day, compared to the 11th day in a blank sample. A formulation containing 2% of each extract completed hair growth by the 19th day of application and showed a potent hair growth pattern. The results suggested that the petroleum ether extract of M. bicolor and H. rosa sinensis possess good hair growth promoting activity.
