TLDR A new treatment using hybrid vesicles with gold nanoparticles and finasteride significantly improves hair regrowth for androgenetic alopecia.
The study explores a novel treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) using hybrid hair follicle stem cell extracellular vesicles (EVs) co-delivering finasteride and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). This approach aims to enhance therapeutic efficacy and safety by improving drug encapsulation efficiency, storage stability, and follicle retention. The encapsulation efficiency (EE%) of finasteride reached 45.33%, and the hybrid vesicles showed no significant cytotoxicity in human-derived dermal papilla cells (HDPCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in vitro. The treatment also facilitated dermal papilla cell migration and hair follicle retention, suggesting it as a promising clinical option for AGA with minimal side effects.
