TLDR Human dermal papilla cells can increase hair thickness and number in pigs with just one injection.
The study conducted by Juyeong Hwang and colleagues at Epi Biotech Co., Ltd., South Korea, investigated the hair growth promoting effects of human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) in pigs. The study involved three pigs, and hDPCs were intradermally injected in 6 sites of the pig's back skin. The results showed that a single injection of hDPCs increased the number of hair follicles and hair thickness for more than 3 months. However, there was no difference in hair follicle number and thickness between low and high doses of hDPCs. Multiple injections also increased hair follicle number and thickness, but a single injection was found to be more effective. The study concluded that hDPCs increased the hair follicle number, thickness, and angiogenesis in pigs, and a single injection of hDPCs might be effective and survive for more than 3 months in clinical studies.

He Shou Wu (Fo Ti) extract was found to prolong the hair growth phase, inhibit 5-alpha-reductase (like finasteride), reduce androgen receptors, and increase growth factors, potentially outperforming minoxidil in recovering hair follicle size after DHT exposure. Two compounds, emodin and TSG, are identified as responsible for these effects and warrant further investigation.
