This comprehensive review evaluates the efficacy and safety of dutasteride in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA), highlighting its superior effectiveness compared to finasteride, though both share similar safety profiles. While topical minoxidil and oral finasteride are recommended as first-line treatments for AGA, dutasteride may be considered off-label for males and post-menopausal females if these treatments fail. However, dutasteride poses potential risks to male fertility, including reduced sperm count and motility, and should be avoided by men whose partners are pregnant.
