TLDR Cannabinoids might help with skin diseases and hair growth, but more research is needed.
The document discussed the preliminary stage of using cannabis for skin diseases and hair regrowth. It highlighted that while many countries have approved cannabis for medical use, only four have legalized it for both medical and recreational purposes. The endocannabinoid system, involving 2‐Arachidonoylglycerol (2‐AG) and N‐arachidonoylethanolamine (AEA), may help maintain skin homeostasis. Topical cannabinoids can avoid first-pass metabolism and reduce respiratory side effects, though their high hydrophobicity may limit absorption. Human clinical studies suggested potential benefits for eczema, acne, pruritus, and systemic sclerosis, with cannabidiol (CBD) possibly enhancing hair growth. Topical cannabis was noted to cause mild side effects but was considered safer than inhalation and oral forms. However, dermatologists were advised to be cautious due to insufficient clinical data on efficacy and safety.
