TLDR PRP and minoxidil are similarly effective for hair density, but PRP has higher patient satisfaction.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) versus topical minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia in 451 participants across nine randomized controlled trials. The study found no significant difference in hair density between the treatments, but PRP showed higher patient satisfaction and better results in the negative hair pull test compared to minoxidil. Despite these findings, PRP did not demonstrate a clear advantage in hair density, mean terminal hair count, or moderate-to-high regrowth. The study emphasizes the need for larger, standardized trials for definitive conclusions.
