TLDR PRP therapy is more effective than minoxidil for treating hair loss from androgenetic alopecia.
The study conducted a randomized-controlled trial on 70 patients with androgenetic alopecia, comparing the efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy and 5% topical minoxidil. After 6 months, 77% of patients treated with PRP had a negative hair pull test, indicating less hair loss, compared to 40% in the minoxidil group. Furthermore, 91.4% of PRP patients reported improvement from baseline, compared to 74.3% in the minoxidil group. The study concluded that PRP therapy can be a useful alternative to topical minoxidil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, especially for those who are dissatisfied with or noncompliant with the frequent use of minoxidil.
