TLDR PRP combined with minoxidil is the most effective and safe treatment for male pattern baldness.
The study compared the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy with or without topical 5% minoxidil in treating male-type baldness in a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled trial with 80 participants. Results indicated that the combination of PRP and minoxidil was the most effective in improving hair density and patient satisfaction, followed by PRP alone and minoxidil alone. The normal saline placebo group showed worsening hair density. No major adverse effects were reported, though PRP caused temporary pain and minoxidil led to scalp pruritus, increased facial hair, and hyperpigmentation in some patients. The study concluded that PRP, especially when combined with minoxidil, is an effective and safe treatment for male pattern baldness, recommending further studies with larger sample sizes.
