TLDR Combining PRP with Minoxidil improves hair density and thickness more than Minoxidil alone.
The systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the additive value of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to topical Minoxidil in treating androgenetic alopecia. Five randomized controlled trials with sample sizes ranging from 20 to 50 participants per group showed that combining PRP with Minoxidil significantly improved hair density at 1 month (MD: 11.07), 3 months (MD: 21.81), and 5/6 months (MD: 17.80) compared to Minoxidil alone. Patient satisfaction was also higher in the combined treatment group. However, the evidence quality was rated as "low to very low" due to high risk of bias and heterogeneity in PRP preparation methods. Further studies with larger sample sizes and standardized PRP protocols are needed.
