TLDR Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy can promote hair growth and improve facial aesthetics, including reducing acne scars and facial burns, and it works best with three initial monthly injections.
In 2019, a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in hair restoration and facial aesthetics. The study found that PRP therapy, which involves the concentration and administration of an autologous solution containing platelets found in whole blood, promoted hair growth and follicle survival. In patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA), 3 monthly PRP injections showed greater efficacy over placebo in terms of hair density. The review also suggested that PRP combined with traditional therapies can help minimize acne scarring and facial burns, improve aesthetic results, and decrease recovery time. However, the data for these indications were less robust. The study concluded that 3 initial monthly PRP injections should be given to achieve an improvement in hair restoration in patients with mild AGA.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

A 20-year-old has been using finasteride for 2 years and switched from 5% to 10% minoxidil, causing issues. The doctor now prescribes 5% minoxidil twice daily, dutasteride on alternate days, and 3 PRP sessions for hair regrowth.

Before getting a hair transplant, it's crucial to research and understand that ongoing treatments like finasteride, dutasteride, or minoxidil are necessary to maintain results. Concerns were raised about Turkish clinics, including overharvesting grafts, lack of regulations, and discouraging finasteride use.

Someone's brother tried Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair loss; it had minimal effect on hair but improved skin appearance. Microneedling at home was suggested as a more sustainable alternative.
