TLDR Et-BB3-CMU rice bran extract may be a promising natural option for promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss.
This study evaluates the hair growth promotion and anti-hair loss potential of rice bran extracts from Thai rice varieties Buebang 3 CMU and Sanpatong. The ethanolic extract of Buebang 3 CMU (Et-BB3-CMU) showed superior results, with high levels of bioactive compounds like γ-oryzanol and tocopherols, significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, and enhanced proliferation of human hair follicle dermal papilla cells. It effectively activated hair growth signaling pathways, such as Wnt/β-catenin and Sonic Hedgehog, and suppressed hair loss-related pathways more than standard treatments like minoxidil and finasteride. These findings suggest that Et-BB3-CMU could be a promising natural alternative for hair growth and hair loss prevention.
