TLDR Growth factors greatly affect hair loss, with different levels seen in men, women, younger patients, and at the start of the condition.
The study conducted 5 years ago involved 60 patients with androgenic alopecia (30 men and 30 women) and 16 healthy volunteers. It investigated the role of growth factors VEGF, KGF, EGF, TGF-β1 in the development of androgenic alopecia. The study found that women with the condition had reduced levels of VEGF and KGF growth factors and increased levels of TGF-β1, while men had reduced levels of VEGF and increased levels of KGF, EGF, and TGF-β1. The expression of these growth factors was higher in younger patients and at the onset of the disease. The study concluded that these growth factors significantly influence the development of androgenic alopecia, with their expression levels varying based on the patient's sex, age, and the nature of the disease progression.
