TLDR Datura metel leaf extracts help heal wounds effectively.
This study explores the wound healing properties of Datura metel L. leaves extracts (Dm1 and Dm2) using supercritical carbon dioxide extraction. The extracts exhibited significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, comparable to l-ascorbic acid, and effectively inhibited nitrite production. Dm1 showed notable wound closure rates, similar to commercial treatments, and both extracts suppressed MMP-2 expression, supporting collagen production. They also upregulated genes in the sonic hedgehog pathway, crucial for cell migration and wound healing. The presence of bioactive compounds like farnesyl acetone, schisanhenol, and loliolide contributes to these effects, suggesting that D. metel extracts could be a promising natural treatment for wound healing.
