TLDR Ficus benghalensis leaf extracts can effectively promote hair growth and inhibit hair loss.
The study evaluates Ficus benghalensis leaf extracts (FBLEs) for their potential to inhibit 5α-reductase and promote hair growth using in vitro, in silico, and in vivo methods. The extracts showed significant inhibition of the enzyme, which is involved in androgenic alopecia, and promoted hair regrowth in rabbits without causing skin irritation. Molecular docking confirmed strong binding interactions of the extract's bioactive compounds with the enzyme. The study concludes that FBLEs can effectively stimulate hair growth and inhibit 5α-reductase II activity, making them promising candidates for natural hair growth treatments.
