TLDR Lower hair zinc and copper levels found in Turkish males with hair loss; higher BMI linked to less hair zinc.
This study found that hair zinc and copper levels were lower in Turkish male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) compared to healthy controls, while serum and urine levels were not significantly different. The study also found that patients with a higher body mass index (BMI) had decreased levels of zinc in hair, and there was a negative correlation between BMI and hair zinc. The study suggests that an imbalance of trace elements, such as zinc and copper, may contribute to the etiopathogenesis of AGA.
