TLDR Some treatments like minoxidil, finasteride, and surgery can help with hereditary hair loss.
The document from April 2018 by Mohammed Sfai Aldeen Abdulla Seleem discussed hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), which is the most common form of hair loss in men, accounting for over 95% of all baldness cases. Hair growth, which averages 1.25 cm per month, slows with age and can decrease to 0.25 cm per month. Baldness becomes noticeable when about 50% of hair is lost. Hair loss is often due to an internal disorder as hair, a protein product of follicles, is sensitive to bodily changes. Male pattern baldness is linked to genetics and male sex hormones called androgens that regulate hair growth. Over time, the hair growth cycle weakens, the hair follicle shrinks, and hair becomes shorter and finer until no new hair grows. While there's no cure for hereditary hair loss, treatments like minoxidil, finasteride, and surgery may be beneficial for some individuals.

Quitting vaping significantly reduced hair loss for a user who was a heavy vaper and also taking finasteride. Some participants suggest nicotine's vasoconstrictive properties may worsen hair loss, while others share personal anecdotes of hair improvement after quitting smoking or vaping.

The conversation discusses why DHT (dihydrotestosterone) negatively affects scalp hair but promotes growth elsewhere on the body. Various opinions include genetic predispositions, differences in hair follicle reactions to DHT, and the potential role of Omega-3 in reducing inflammation and promoting hair health.
