TLDR Body hair can be used as an extra source of donor hair in hair restoration surgery for people with severe hair loss.
In 2007, a case study was conducted on a 47-year-old male patient with advanced hair loss (Norwood 6 category) who underwent a hair restoration surgery using body hair due to limited availability of donor hair in the scalp. The procedure involved transplanting 700 chest hair follicular units to the patient's scalp. After eight months, it was observed that the transplanted chest hair grew and formed a cosmetically acceptable forelock. This suggests that body hair can be used as an additional source of donor hair in hair restoration surgery for individuals with extensive hair loss due to androgenic alopecia (Norwood 5 and above).
