TLDR Low-level laser therapy is the most supported treatment for hair loss, but other methods show promise.
The review article evaluates various non-pharmaceutical treatments for androgenetic alopecia (AGA), including microneedling, pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy, low-level laser therapy (LLLT), fractional laser therapy, and nonablative laser therapy. LLLT is particularly effective, with over 80 FDA-cleared devices showing improved hair density and tensile strength in clinical trials. Microneedling enhances the effectiveness of topical treatments like minoxidil, with significant improvements in hair regrowth. PEMF therapy also shows promise, with continuous improvement over time. Combining these therapies, such as microneedling with LLLT, could enhance results. Future research should focus on optimizing treatment parameters and exploring synergistic effects.
