TLDR Both treatments for resistant alopecia areata were equally effective.
The study compared the efficacy of topical triamcinolone acetonide application after fractional CO2 laser treatment versus microneedling (MN) in treating resistant alopecia areata (AA) in 30 patients. Patients were divided into two groups of 15 each. The laser group received fractional CO2 laser treatment followed by triamcinolone acetonide, while the MN group received dermapen treatment followed by the same topical application. Results showed no significant difference in overall treatment effectiveness between the two methods. However, the laser group had a higher percentage of terminal hair regrowth (13.3%) at the first follow-up compared to the MN group (0%). Both methods allowed for uniform drug distribution, and there was no significant difference in the degree of improvement between the groups.
