TLDR Exposure to 50 Hz electromagnetic fields may help mice grow hair faster.
In the 2019 study involving 27 C57BL/6 mice, researchers found that exposure to 50 Hz electromagnetic fields (EMF) for 30 minutes daily over 16 days enhanced hair follicle regrowth. The EMF group showed faster hair club formation, earlier hair shaft eruption, and significantly longer hair length compared to the control group. There was also an increase in Ki67+ cell proliferation in the hair bulb and outer root sheath, as well as higher expression of keratinocyte growth factor, suggesting that EMF exposure could be beneficial for hair regrowth and potentially for treating hair loss conditions. The findings indicate that 50 Hz EMF may promote the proliferation of epidermal stem cells and could be used therapeutically for hair loss and wound healing. The study was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Science and Technology Planning Project from Binzhou Medical University.
