TLDR Fractional lasers could help hair regrowth in androgenic alopecia, but more research is needed to confirm their effectiveness and safety.
The document from 2019 reviewed the potential of fractional laser therapies for treating androgenic alopecia (AGA), analyzing nine original studies with 106 human patients and 276 mice. It suggested that fractional lasers might promote hair regrowth by creating microscopic injuries or enhancing drug delivery. Preliminary evidence indicated positive effects, especially when combined with topical treatments like minoxidil, as seen in a study with 88 mice where hair growth was induced more rapidly than in controls. Human studies, including one with 20 male Korean patients, showed significant improvements in hair density and growth rate, although the effects were transient. Side effects were generally mild and transient. The document concluded that while fractional lasers show promise for AGA treatment, more high-quality clinical trials are needed to establish efficacy, safety, and optimal treatment protocols.
