TLDR PRP therapy may improve skin and hair conditions, but more research with standard methods is needed.
The document reviewed the literature on platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for facial rejuvenation, fat grafting, acne scarring, and androgenic alopecia, covering studies from 2006 to 2015 with a total of 721 patients across all indications. The majority of studies reported positive outcomes, such as improved facial skin quality, reduced wrinkles, better fat grafting results, improved acne scarring, and increased hair growth for alopecia patients. Despite these promising results, the review highlighted the lack of standardized PRP preparation and application protocols, which made it difficult to compare studies and draw definitive conclusions. The review called for more controlled trials with standardized methods to better understand PRP's efficacy. Overall, PRP was found to be a safe and potentially beneficial treatment in aesthetic and dermatological applications, but further research with standardized protocols was recommended.
